United Kingdom Clarifies Transfer Scheme for France‑Based Applicants

Key Point

  • The United Kingdom has released clarifying details about its scheme that allows eligible applicants in France to legally transfer to the U.K.

Applicant Transfer Scheme

As of 2 December 202025, the United Kingdom (U.K.) released clarifying details on the U.K./European Applicant Transfer Scheme, a pathway for individuals currently in France to legally enter the U.K. The scheme allows applicants, along with their partners and children under 18, to submit an expression of interest online. Successful applicants receive entry clearance for a period of up to three months.

The process involves five steps: submitting an application, confirming your location in France, providing proof of identity at an in-person appointment, preparing for travel and receiving support upon arrival in the U.K.

Applicants must not attempt to travel while awaiting a decision. Importantly, the scheme excludes individuals who have previously entered the U.K. illegally, hold international protection elsewhere, or already have immigration permission in France.

Participants in this scheme are prohibited from working, studying or accessing public funds during their three-month stay. To remain in the U.K. beyond that period, individuals must apply for another visa or asylum status.
