New Zealand Eases Travel for Chinese Visitors Arriving from Australia

Key Point

  • Eligible Chinese nationals traveling from Australia to New Zealand will no longer need a visa if they hold a valid Australian visa and meet specific entry criteria

Entry Requirements New Zealand

New Zealand’s Immigration Service announced a new visa waiver policy that simplifies travel for Chinese citizens arriving directly from Australia.

Effective 20 November 2025, Chinese passport holders who have a valid Australian visa and meet standard entry requirements—such as holding a return ticket and having sufficient funds—can enter New Zealand without applying for a separate visa.

The government introduced this change to strengthen tourism and business ties between the two countries. It also aims to make short-term travel more convenient for Chinese visitors.

The waiver applies only to direct arrivals from Australia and does not extend to travelers entering from other countries. Immigration New Zealand advises travelers to check eligibility details and ensure compliance with all entry conditions before departure.
